Henna Tealights

Everyone has that friend who is really hard to shop for.  I know I have at least one of those, and I'm sure you do too.  They love unique items, or they seem to have everything and not really want anything specific.  While shopping for such a friend, I came across a site that is really going to help me shop for certain individuals in my life.  And guess what - I'm going to buy some for me too, because I like them that much!  Check out these henna tealights.

The henna tealights from http://designsbynn.com/ are beautiful and unique.  Just like your friend. And just like you.

Because I'm interested in knowing what I'm supporting, I checked out the "about us" section of the site after drooling over all the beautiful tealight designs.  I loved what I found.  The creator of these tealights started this business in 2013 to share a love for henna inspired art.  The design inspiration for these tealights comes from the artist's Asian culture, from nature, and from architecture.  It is pretty obvious by the descriptions on the site that the artist is passionate about the work.

The next time I need to buy something for a friend who appreciates artistry and beauty, I'm going to buy her a set of these lovely henna tealights.  And I'll be making my own order soon too!

Creative Recharge

I don't know about you, but I find when I'm busy doing creative work, sometimes I have to stop and take a break.  It's important to recharge.  Here are some ways I like to recharge when I've reached a creative block.

Games
I had been playing games on my phone, but that requires a download for each different game, and then I'm sitting in front of a computer and holding my phone at the same time.  Then someone showed me a site that has a cool collection of games that I can use when it's time for a creative recharge.  It's called funbrain Games.  Their goal is to provide fun and relaxation with a variety of games on a single site.

You don't have to go anywhere else to find lots of different games to play because you can find it all on funbrain!  From arcade style to the kind of games you may have downloaded in the past, this site has it all. Playing games is a great way to take a step back and work your brain in a different way.

Arts and Crafts
Another way I love to recharge is to color.  Yes, you heard me right.  There are lots of adult coloring books out there just for this purpose.  You can break out your colored pencils or fine-tip markers or pens and have a blast creating something beautiful.  Coloring is great for mental relaxation.  Along the same lines, crafting does the same thing for me.  I'm always happy to break out the hook and some yarn when I need a creative break.

Meditation
Let's talk about meditation a little bit.  Just taking a mental break and clearing your mind helps.  Listening to calming music and not thinking about anything can get the creative juices flowing again.  Focusing on a single word or image can help you come up with creative solutions to your problem.

Exercise
And last but certainly not least, get moving!  Exercise is a great way to recharge your creativity - and with an added bonus of making you healthier and happier (yay, endorphins!)  So get up and get moving, even for a few minutes.  It will make a world of difference.

Those are just a few things I like to do when I need a creative recharge.  What are some things you do?  Let's share our ideas!

Perspectives

I actually may have written about this once before, but I wanted to do it again.  Can we talk about perspective for a moment?  More specifically, a shift in perspective and what that can do for a person.  Because I'm learning that this is pretty much the key to staying happy with life.

I'm not talking about joy - that comes from a good relationship with God.  I'm talking about being happy with life.  Genuinely happy.  Because you can have joy but still be sad.  You can have joy but still be dissatisfied.  And that's where a shift in perspective is required.

I've been struggling lately with various aspects of being a stay at home mom - especially with a toddler who wants to test everything right now.  I have joy.  I even have happiness with my life and the way it is right now.  But I find myself becoming angry easily, frustrated more often, and upset about the smallest things.  A shift in perspective is required.  So I listened to this song, thinking about my personal journey and my life, and decided to make that shift.

So how do you shift your perspective?  Do you think about people who have it worse than you?  Do you pray?  Do you meditate on your blessings?  There are many ways to do it, and of course you should choose the one that is right for you.  I personally like to do a mix of these things.  I find if I take a moment to actually stop and think about my life and the good things in it, the problems I'm upset about tend to become very small.  I find if I take a moment to do something nice for someone in need, it helps me (maybe even more than it helps them) because I gain a new perspective.

What is your perspective on perspectives?  (See what I did there?)

Excited about "Go Set a Watchman" by Harper Lee

If you are as bookish as I am, chances are you've heard about this (and even if you aren't bookish, since it's pretty big news!) new book.  Raised in the South, of course "To Kill a Mockingbird" was a book I read early and often.  As with any other book by an Alabama author, I studied it closely, being an aspiring author myself.  And now we have another fantastic work by Harper Lee, "Go Set a Watchman".  Seriously, I can't wait.

In fact, I just found out I can pre-order the book and get something extra, so I'm extra excited!  Check this out.  Ol' Curiosities & Book Shoppe, a bookstore in Monroeville, Alabama (Harper Lee's hometown) is running a very special offer.  This description of the offer is from their website:
